Meet the Town Council

 

 

Mike Schnittker - Mayor

Mayor Schnittker was elected as a Councilman in May 2007 and appointed Mayor Pro-Tem in July 2007.  In May 2008 he was elected Mayor.  He earned degrees in both Finance and Management Information Systems from Texas A&M University.  Mayor Pro-Tem Schnittker is a former Naval Aviator who is currently a Captain for Southwest Airlines.  He, his wife Shelley, and their three daughters have been residents of Lakewood Village since 2005.  
 

 

Dr. Mark E. Vargus - Mayor Pro-Tem

Mayor Pro-Tem Vargus was elected to Town Council in May 2007 and was appointed to serve as Mayor Pro-Tem in June 2008.  Mayor Pro-Tem Vargus earned his PhD in Accounting from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he also holds a MA in Economics and a MBA in Finance.  His received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University.  Prior to his academic career, Dr. Vargus was employed by Lockheed-Martin as a Senior Engineer in the advanced radar systems group.  Dr. Vargus has received appointments to the University of Michigan, University of Southern California, and currently the University of Texas at Dallas. He is a six-time teaching award recipient in addition to winning several national awards for his scholarly research, including the 2007 Notable Contribution to Management Accounting Research Award.  Dr. Vargus purchased his Lakewood Village home site in 2003 and has been a resident since 2005.
 

 


 

Dave Getka - Councilman

Councilman Dave Getka was appointed to Council in June 2008.  Councilman Getka moved to Lakewood Village in May of 2006 from Northern California on a corporate relocation with 3M. He is a US Army veteran and former noncommissioned officer in the Wisconsin Army National Guard and the Missouri Air National Guard. Councilman Getka earned a Bachelors of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Webster University in St. Louis, MO. He has been employed for 25 years with the 3M Corporation in sales and sales management. He and his wife Ingrid have been married for 26 years and have one daughter living in Southern California. Councilman Getka enjoys public service and appreciates the opportunity to serve his community and make a positive contribution to the town of Lakewood Village.
 

 

 

Carolyn Coleman - Councilwoman

Councilwoman Coleman and her husband, Charlie, have lived in Lakewood Village since 2004.  Councilwoman Coleman has five grown sons and nine grandchildren.  She is an interior designer with many years experience in retail sales and business management.
 


 

 

 

Ken Guthrie - Councilman

Councilman Guthrie and his wife, Laurie, have owned their home in Lakewood Village since 1999.  He has been employed at a large Plano-based computer services firm for 33 years, and specializes in the support of a global Help Desk application.  Additionally, he manages $100M of computer assets, and a department budget of $25M annually, including financial reporting, budgeting, and capital planning.   Councilman Guthrie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science at The American University, and a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the School of Electrical Engineering at The George Washington University.
 

 

 

Harold Wood - Councilman

Councilman Wood has owned property in Lakewood Village since 2005.  He built on his property and made Lakewood Village his home in 2006.  Councilman Wood has been married to his wife, Rosemary, for 36 years.  They have a daughter, three sons, and eight grandchildren.  He served in the United States Navy as a Radarman and performed search and rescue in Vietnam.  Following Councilman Wood's service in the military, his career has been focused in heavy construction, logging, mining and agricultural equipment.  He served as the Parts and Service Manager for the USA Central Region for Kubota Tractor Corp. and retired in 1998.  Councilman Wood states "Working with the other Councilmen to support the needs of our Town of Lakewood Village has been a very rewarding experience."
